Day 9 - Santa Fe, NM

Our last full day on this trip was completely in Santa Fe.  We began by walking through the various art galleries on Canyon Rd. which are housed it what once were all private homes.  These charming adobe buildings now host pieces ranging from contemporary to traditional and we did indeed see all types of art.  At one of our last stops, we were greeted by a particularly fun gallery owner originally from Oxford, England who delighted us with her British dry wit, but warm conversation.  Lunch was calling so we ventured into the Plaza area where we found a nice little southern Mexican place that offered yummy tacos and quesadillas.

We had tickets to tour the Georgia O'Keeffe museum at 2:00 so we made the short jaunt there next.  The museum itself isn't very big and today it was quite crowded, but what a thrill it was to see so many of O'Keeffe's work up close.  After touring the museum, I realized we drove right past her Ghost Ranch home on the way into Santa Fe the previous day.

On our way back to the hotel, we stopped at the New Mexico Museum of Art which includes a beautiful courtyard with murals and, of course, hanging chile peppers.

Before heading to dinner, we had some time just to sit and relax at the hotel.  I took the opportunity to catch up on my photos and blogging while having my balcony door open since a front had come through and chilled the outdoor air nicely.  After dark, we dined at La Choza in the Railyard District, which specializes in northern New Mexican food.  Spicy chiles and a fun atmosphere made this an excellent meal, with a fun wait staff too.  A little car cleaning afterwards, and we officially wrapped up our stay in the Southwest!  Tomorrow we'll take the Turquoise Trail route south from Santa Fe to I-40 then bop over to the Albuquerque airport to head home.  Another wonderful adventure in the books filled with variety each day.
